HIKING TOUR

JOLISCHLUCHT CIRCULAR HIKE

In order to connect the Lötschberg south ramp with the village of Niedergesteln, a path has been laid out through the wild Jolischlucht gorge, crossing it at the top with a 20-metre-high suspension bridge. A real highlight for all adventurers and adrenaline junkies! The starting point of this circular hike is the valley station of the Raron-Unterbäch cable car. From here, the trail first leads to the centre of Raron village and further up to the Rarnerkumme, where the “Bärgbeizli Rarnerchumma” inn awaits for a cosy stopover. The route continues along the Lötschberg south ramp to the highlight of the hike – crossing the suspension bridge. Once you’ve safely arrived on the other side, the route continues via the Jolischlucht gorge through an illuminated tunnel to the Stägeru Suon waterway. After a short section along the wild and romantic waterway, the path descends to the castle village of Niedergesteln and back to Raron. Cultural highlights include the castle church of Raron, with the grave of the famous poet Rainer Maria Rilke, and Raron’s modern rock-hewn church. The cable car runs every half hour between Unterbäch and Raron.
